-EDIT- Wow...I'm stupid. I just switched from Vuze back to utorrent, and forgot to switch my utorrent saved folder to the normal folder, so I was trying to extract an uncompleted download.

I cant start the game..I got the whole thing but i can add the -steam -game portal at the end..What am i doing wrong?? It keeps giving me invalid parameter specified error..

hey i have a problem, i've used both of the fixes and it starts up okay, but once it gets past the valve and steam startup screens, it suddenly pops up a colourful screen and then my comp crashes and help?

after downloading the torrent download this torrent (the link) above as well.
extract everything from the portal unleash .rar into the portal unleash folder. including the gcf files.
open the portal folder with in the portal unleash folder
then extract the .ini and the .bat into the portal folder
then double click the .bat to start the game!

i got the problem that it seems to work but after the valve splashscreen i see a colorfull screen followed by the blue screen of death.. followed by restart, any help?

EDIT:

when i put -windowed after the -game portal in the shortcut the game didn't blue screened me but instead i see a room with a glass cell and i think there is a menu or something only i can't see it -_-' any advice???

go the the folder in which you "extracted the game to" and find the that's called "steamEmu" go inside the file and find where it says
MountCacheManual= and switch the number that was there to 405 you will not need the fix because thats what fix fixes

Want to play the game here is what You do...
Download this torrent extract then creat a shortcut to hl2.exe in the same folder and not on the desktop then right click on the shortcut and select properties and u will find Target: x:\games or what ever\portal\hl2.exe add this to it -steam -game portal so it becomes X:\...\portal\hl2.exe -steam -game portal apply the changes then open steamEmu change "MountCacheManual=428" to"MountCacheManual=405" and save then u can play the game from the shortcut. Thanx to "torstenkanzler" for the idea
NOTE:You do exactly what I have just said and no other downloads or patches are required to play ...enjoy the game

it has levels 1-19 but for challenge levels (which are the same levels as the missions only u have to complete them with the fewest portals,steps,etc.) it has 13-19 but i think it is supposed to have only those levels but yeah for single player it has all the levels

well try erase and start again.
when extracting the .rar files be sure its the correct one!
it should be the one without the .r00 numbers it looks like blah.rar NO NUMBERS
then extract everything in the .rar to the folder.
then get the torrent boot fix theres a link on my previous post.
then extract everything in to the game folder
and double click on the .bat from the boot fix and play.

well, i got the MountCacheManual=405 correct, i added -steam -game portal to the shortcut and i get a bluescreen whenever i try to start this, i'm guessing it's my comp to blame but still, ain't there something else i could do? i want to play this game :'(

marine63, I followed every single step of yours, and when I open the .bat a DOS window appears with the path to my hl2.exe plus -steam -game portal, but after a second the "MounApptFilesystem" error comes up again

EDIT: nvm, I just moved back the .gcf files I accidantely (or rather desperately) moved into the portal folder. They belong outside. No everything works, thank you.

is preety easy to fix first of all

creat a shortcut for hl2.exe and go to properties and go to TARGET there make sure to put the drive where u extracted it at like C < first u put C:\ than u put the name of the folder where the game is located at in my case is C:\PORTAL\portal
PORTAL is the name of the folder where i extacted everything
and the other portal is the name of the folder for the game
now that we have G:\PORTAL\portal add this to it
hl2.exe -steam -game portal

that should make it work


now the other part is the patch what you have to do is find
SteamEmu

in here copy and paste this :

this game is "stand alone" game portal, wich includes hl2.exe and other needed files, size unpacked nearly 5 giga.

1. extract rar
2. see hl2.exe file and create shortcut (mouse1)
3. open shortcut (mouse1 + properties)
4. add the "target" hl2.exe -steam -game portal (you have to write it end of hl2.exe -steam -game portal) and apply/ok
5. prolly need a portal-fix if it doesn't work (http://www.torrentz.com/25e050ed0d3ada1341abb7d19a6f455dd6711042 etc.)
5.1. extract rar (portal-fix)
5.2. copy/cut (mouse1) steamEMU.ini and place it to your portal folder where you find old steamEMU.ini file, then press "yes"
6. now doupleclick shortcut

guys i even tried portal unleashed boot/start fix. But still my comps restarts.
My graphics are currently running on the cd drivers which r supplied by the manufacturer.

Can someone please help me? I downloaded the fix. Overwrited the SteamEmu file. Made a hl.exe shortcut with the -steam -game portal commands. I entered the game and the portal screen comes up. And then it just quits the game, and im on the desktop again. =/ Anyone?

hey i had the game working and was trying to put a different screen resolution and as soon as i put it i got a black screen with that blue box that tells u about the screen state, well it says something that the resolution is too high to please switch back to the one i had but i cant get into any menu even pressing anything, i have to ctrl+alt+delete and end portal task to even be able to do anything, can anyone help me out????

Have no fear, you can trust any Unleashed release that has more than 300 seeds.

For those who are complaining about problems, I'd say buy the game, but being a valve release, you would probably still have the same problems. Their games are buggy as **** , but always worth the frustration. Before you post here asking for solutions, if you read the comments carefully, you'll probably come across one anyway. If not, try Google.

Ok, heres the complete how-to,
because i was confused after two different solutions.

1. Download Portal torrent.
2. Download Portal-fix torrent.
3. Extract Portal.
if you use winrar, right click any of the packages (eg. unl-prtl.r00)
then click "Extract to unl-prtl"
4. Open the portal fix .rar, and replace the .ini file inside the portal folder.
5. Create a shortcut of the hl2.exe to same folder.
6. right click the shortcut, and press properties.
7. on the first textfield "target", add -steam -game portal to the end.
(from "drive:\portalhl2.exe" to
"drive:\portalhl2.exe -steam -game portal")

doubleclick the shortcut and have some cake

This is how i did it, and i just finished playing it :)

When I start the game everything works fine until I get to the part where I'm let out of that tiny room. As soon as that happens the screen goes black and "hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" comes up.

I think it's just that my computer fails and can;t play it, but I just want to make sure.
