This works fine, even on Vista. Tested by me, I would highly recommend updating the game to the latest and then going to Gameburnworld.com to get the latest No CD though.

Get a mini-image and not a crack, that will fix your problem, it is also a lesser risk since you are not playing about with untrusted .exe files.

Um, where do you get this MINI-IMAGE? Can you show me the link? I'm quite a computer newb... so please explain.

Search for "Sims 2" without the quotes, then download the file called "The Sims 2 v1.0 [ALL] No-CD/Fixed Image #3"

Once you have downloaded it, make sure you have installed and patched the game up the latest and then extract the image out of the archive you downloaded it in and then mount that image with alcohol 52%, mounting an image is like putting a CD in a CD drive, but it is virtual, it should be self explanatory when you get alcohol.

If you need something to extract the image from the file, i recommend Winrar.

To the pple having problems with the cracks.
Found a kindoff solution for cd or dvd version. THE US VERSION DOES NOT HAVE A CRACK FOR IT!!! Ok, first, excellent rip, works well very fun game has everything for the basics.

Second, if this is your first time downloading a game online, as it was mine, read the do **** ent enclosed BEFORE you try anything else. It gives you the password you need to install it.

To install it I would suggest Alcohol 120%, it lets you load each disk with just a couple clicks for quick installation.
So here's what you need to do:
1. download the torrent and Alcohol 120%
2. load all 4 Cd's by pressing file>open...
3. right click on disk one and het mount on drive
4. begin the installation process and use the passcodes included in the download
5. whenever it asks for a new disk go back to Alcohol and mount the next CD and hit ok.
6. once you get done with all of this go to the Sims 2 website and download the latest patch
7. I guess download the two other files mentioned above from gamecopywordl.com, though I couldn't tell that they made any difference, also this step may need to be completed before you install the patches, that's what I did though I'm really no sure if it made a difference.

VISTA USERS: the file will likely not run until you go into the Sims 2 folder (probably C:Program FilesEA GamesThe Sims 2) click on the TSBin file, right click on the file labeled Sims2, go to the compatibility tab, check the box that says "run this program in compatibility mode for:" and make sure it's set to XP service pack 2. This let me run the program without any issues.

Thanks for uploading, I just got it to work, if you've installed it already but you can't make walls, flooring doesn't work and you can't save the game, get the latest patch from here: http://thesims2.ea.com/update/getpatch.php?appVersion=1.0&variation=cd&languageCode=4

Get this file and run it, it may ask you to insert the 4th CD...just have Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120% open beforehand so you can mount the 4th CD to the virtual drive. It should start to patch your Sims 2 game.

I downloaded another copy awhile back and i got terrible lag =( Hope this copy works better =)

Ehm... OK... Got it myself.
I installed Alcohol 120% (the newer one) instead of Daemon Tools (the pretty old version) I used before, so mini-image does the trick now.
I guess that some newer versions of Deamon Tools would also make it work.

The game is not working well,when i create a family it closes,and the trees are a bunch of letters the walls in the room where u create a family too,i've already downloaded the update but it hasn't changed anything what should i do???

whenever i try they show me a msg that sims 2 disk is needed to be inserted, and when insert it they say that i've put the wrong disk .........
also i cannot create buildings.......
