I had the same problem with the crack.
Here goes what work for me:
1. Uptade to 1.3 version with this patch (http://www.download.com/Need-for-Speed-Most-Wanted-v1-3-patch/3000-7534_4-10471256.html)
2. Then download this crack and replaced the original speed.exe as usual.
